Gillian McDonald

Drawn irresistibly to North Pembrokeshire’s distinctive light and wild beauty, Gillian McDonald has walked, sketched, and painted this landscape for over thirty years. Deeply inspired by the region’s ancient geology and its prehistoric standing stones, she feels a deep connection with Pembrokeshire’s first artists whose work remains rooted in the land.

Gillian is also continually inspired by the places where the land meets the sea, especially in the fishing villages and untamed coastline where resilient rocks confront the relentless waves. Favourite headlands such as St Davids, Strumble, and Ceibwr offer endless fascination. As this connection has deepened, so has Gillian’s technique evolved to incorporate collage and natural offerings from the land, reflecting the endless natural elements layered within the landscape.
