This is new body of work from St Dogmaels Artist Clare Rose, it is the culmination of some 27 years of intermittent (yet intense) painting and study.
Clare finds inspiration for her paintings and drawings whilst walking her beloved terrier & constant companion Milo through the Pembrokeshire and the Ceredigion countryside. A well respected portrait painter and traditionally representational painter, her recent work both en plein air and in the studio have moved into gentle abstraction, creating classic, familiar images that the create an immediate connection, despite being of her own creation.
‘I am also transfixed by the effects of light on any subject and currently in particular, the Pembrokeshire landscape. I use pencil, pastel, ink and charcoal; gouache, oils and acrylics, working directly from life, from what’s in front of me. When this is not possible, I paint from sketches, memories and many photographs. I make observational drawings daily, believing that sound drawing is the ‘grammar’ of the visual language. Painting is a constantly evolving process to which I am entirely dedicated.
