Sarah Williams (nee Young) was born in Pembrokeshire, she attended Croesgoch C.P and St. Davids Secondary Schools. After completing a Foundation course at Carmarthen College of Art & Technology she went on to study a BA(hons) in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University.
“As Artists, our first instincts respond to the striking visual beauty of Pembrokeshire. The landscape, coastline and special light of West Wales has been irresistible to painters for centuries. The Poet Dr Mererid Hopwood talks about ‘listening to the landscape’. By listening to original Welsh place names and hearing stories from our native communities we gain a deeper understanding of our local culture and language.
I have spent the last few years listening to people from the Gwaun Valley to Milford Haven talking about their hopes, fears and concerns about the future of the language and why keeping it alive is so important. These conversations form the backbone of my work, through painting and installation I hope to continue this dialogue and spark further dialogue with the viewer”.
