Angharad Taris - Wind, Water, Trees and Light

‘My work is a response to the place in which I live: the west coast of Wales. I am positioned on the edge of landscape, where land merges with sea and sky. Born and raised on a farm, I developed an intimate relationship with my environment and a deep connection to the spirit of the place.

My paintings do not set out to be precise representations: they are internal and external expressions of experience elicited by the painting process. 

Light, colour, experience, the spirit of a place and transitory moments of wonder expressed in paint and developed through the painting process inspire the work. The work is an evocation of the mood of the landscape which grows out of my relationship to place and a spiritual connection within moments of time.

I paint out on location whenever I can, energised by the elements, light, colour and the changing seasons. Works are charged with connection, time and memory. The works have been described as poems in paint.’

Graduate of Central St Martins School of Art, London, 1990,  and Aberystwyth University, MA in Fine Art Painting, 2019.  Art Lecturer, Aberystwyth University for over 20 Years.
