Date: 19/07/2019 - 19/08/2019

We are excited to have sisters Natalie and Lola Chapman joint exhibition is the first in our new gallery in Cardigan. Grand daughters of the famous Rhondda and West Wales artist George Chapman Lola and Natalie are gathering a strong following of admirers and collectors.

Natalie Chapman is a figurative painter based in the small market town of Aberaeron. After studying Art and Design in Coleg Ceredigion she has gone on to gain a first-class hons degree in fine art at Coleg Sir Gar Carmarthen. She has exhibited in many places including the botanical gardens, Elysium Gallery and the Norwegian church Cardiff. Natalie’s paintings depict the social relationships through bold use of colour and space. The portrayal of interpersonal dynamics is engaging yet tense. The push pull between tenderness and tension trying to capture identity and social documentary with the focus on snap-shot compositions of everyday life. Creating a sense of ambiguous tension, emptiness, boredom and anxiety.

Lola Rose Chapman Lola is a West Wales based artist and is inspired by the native landscapes. Her work is not a pictorial image of a location but rather a capturing of the atmosphere and essence of the place made physical. The work comes from a spontaneous reaction to the environment and a natural instinct that forms itself into fluid brush strokes and marks. The painting evokes a feeling of expansiveness with no limits, and through an often unplanned process, the work develops and reveals itself.
