Lucy Burns
Born in Swansea and raised in Pembrokeshire, Lucy’s work has a strong sense of place, rooted in the wild landscapes of west Wales. There is a heavy influence from folklore, mythology, stories about the earth around us, nature, and the grounding importance of where we come from. Creating naïve, traditional ink and gouache illustrations, Lucy has an interest in taking classic and sometimes ancient narratives, and re-configuring them for the modern world, in a meaningful way. Her interest in Welsh and Celtic folklore was ignited by a curiosity in Welsh identity, and how these stories might contribute and re-enforce this connection, and a feeling of belonging.
